We should be doing everything feasible to produce geothermal free energy technologies. This is a largely unexploited area of fantastic alternative free energy possibilities, as it simply taps the energy being naturally created by the Earth herself. Enormous quantities of energy lie under the upper crust of the earth, on which we lie, and all that is necessary is to tap the source and take control over it.
The temperature at the hub of the earth is 60 times greater than the temperature at which water boils and this tremendous heat produce pressure, which exist only a few miles below the surface. This enormous heat is a store of massive energy and result in super hot fluids called magma, which we can see whenever a volcano erupts. These fluids also come up to the surface of the earth as steam and come out from vents.
We can develop our own vents, and we can produce out own containment chambers for the magma and convert all of this energy into electricity to light and heat our homes. To develop a geo-thermal plant, a well needs to be dug in an area with abundant source of magma or super hot fluid, then a pipe has to be used to bring up the fluid on to the surface level to get the required steam power. The steam would be used to produce electrical energy, using a turbine engine.
There are unfavorable judgments of geo-thermal free energy tapping which prevents it being implemented on the large scale which it should be. According to skeptics finding the right place is expensive and time-consuming. Then setting up a geo-thermal power plant is also very costly, with no assurance of any future profits. Some geothermic sites, once tapped, might be found to not develop a large enough quantity of steam for the power plant to be viable or reliable.
Even conservationists have stated their concern that pumping up magma could also carry with it several damaging materials. However the benefits of geo-thermal free energy far outweighs such comments if only we explored it deeper. The fact is this is the free energy of the Earth herself means it does not produce any pollutants. geo-thermal free energy is an economical free energy source – easy to develop after site identification and the set up of the plant to produce it.
A geothermic plant is also not as huge as say a dam or an atomic free energy unit, making it a lesser risk to the environment. Nevertheless, it is an alternative form of energy and using it would mean we become that much less dependent on oil and coal. The most fundamental point in the favor of geothermal free energy is that we would never exhaust it and nor would its value appreciate with time, as it is an endless source. The use of geothermic energy would be exceedingly inexpensive and the cost of building a power station can be recovered expeditiously.
